What social problem do we address?
“Equality between men and women exists when both sexes are able to share equally in the distribution of power and influence; have equal opportunities for financial independence through work or through setting up businesses; enjoy equal access to education and the opportunity to develop personal ambitions” (UNFPA: FAQs About Gender Equality: Why is Gender Equality Important).
We are working to create a world where men and women have equal opportunities to pursue their personal ambitions and dreams. We address the persistent gender gap in entrepreneurship and innovation in rural India.
The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor 2020/2021 shows that the percentage of the female adult population engaged in entrepreneurship in India is a scant 2.6%, mostly in necessity-driven rather than innovation-driven enterprises.
The prevailing gender gaps in India, especially in the rural resource-poor communities, create major barriers to women’s aspirations and personal ambitions. Plustrust is therefore working with rural women changemakers by providing micro-incubation support through The Rural Women Edupreneur (RWE), Return to Roots ( R2R) and Changemaker Fellowship programmes. We identify and encourage those with entrepreneurial mindsets in piloting their service enterprises on aspects like Education, Healthcare, and Livelihood to improve basic services in their community.
